What The Harry Potter Cast SHOULD Have Looked Like In The Movies
The Harry Potter series has grown into a large and beloved Wizarding world. But sometimes, it's easy to forget the humble beginnings of each of these beloved characters. And while all of these cast members of Harry Potter have added unique and awesome qualities to their respective characters, many of them don't quite fit J.K. Rowling's descriptions.
Here's what exact, faithful adaptations to the movies would have created!
Harry Potter In The Movies: Able-Bodied, Blue-Eyed Athlete
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the movies, Harry Potter is an able-bodied athlete with blue eyes and a sharp jawline. He's not the tallest student at Hogwarts, but he's definitely got the charm and masculine features to make audiences swoon.
Harry Potter In The Books: Skinny, Round-Faced, And Green-Eyed
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressRowling introduces Harry as "small and skinny for his age. Harry had a thin face, knobbly knees, black hair and bright green eyes. He wore round glasses held together with a lot of Scotch tape... The only thing Harry liked about his own appearance was a very thin scar on his forehead that was shaped like a bolt of lightning."
A crucial feature of the books is that Harry has Lily's green eyes. He's also supposed to have a much more round face (so no chiseled jaw) and shoulder-length hair in Deathly Hallows. Apparently, he's too busy finding Horcruxes to upkeep his hair. Though he did have enough time for drama.
Ron Weasley In The Movies: Brown-Eyed And Fair-Skinned
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the movies, Ron sports a tousled, ginger hairstyle with an even more messy personality. He's got fair skin and brown eyes, but its still his personality and quick-thinking that gets fans to love him.
Ron Weasley In The Books: Freckled Gangly Surfer Dude
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressRon is described as "tall, thin and gangling, with freckles, big hands and feet, and a long nose."
In order for Rupert Grint to match Ron in the books, he'd had to have a longer nose, plenty of freckles, and a fiery red mane just like the rest of his family. And not to mention his signature bright blue eyes, which makes us think he'd be great for socal beaches.
Voldemort In The Movies: Snake Human
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressIn the movies, Voldemort has a skull-like face with sharp features. His eyes are disturbingly human amidst the rest of his snakelike features. His long fingernails are white like the rest of his pale body.
Voldemort In The Books: Crimson Snake Eyes, Blue Fingernails
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressVoldemort in the books is "whiter than a skull, with wide, livid scarlet eyes and a nose that was flat as a snake's but with slits for nostrils." His unsettling cat-like, scarlet eyes are contrasted with pale blue fingernails. Would've been nice to see him casting spells to add color to his nails.
And of course, he has no lips.
Professor Umbridge In The Movies: Stately
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressImelda Staunton perfectly captures the proud essence of Umbridge. She sports all-pink clothes and a signature bob; but despite these delicate features, she still scares us more than Voldy.
Professor Umbridge In The Books: A Toad
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic Press"Dolores Umbridge is said to resemble a ‘large, pale toad’."
There are multiple times Harry is reminded of a toad with Umbridge. She's got a short neck and a wide mouth, and we can only assume that her eyes are far apart much like a toad. Watching every move.
Bellatrix In The Movies: Deranged But Make It Classy
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressHelena Bonham Carter definitely pulls off Bellatrix's "once classy, now scary." She's got full lips, piercing eyes, and a messy hairstyle that still somehow falls perfectly down her shoulders. Carter carries a certain pride and class while she's throwing Unforgiveable Curses.
Bellatrix In The Books
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the books, Lestrange is described as "a woman with thick, shining dark hair, long eyelashes and heavily hooded eyes… was sitting in the chained chair as though it were a throne."
This means "adieu" to the full lips and eyes. Instead, her eyebrows and lashes will be the star players of her face.
Hermione In The Movies: Bright Flowy Hair, Underestimated Nerd
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressBy the end of the series, Emma Watson has perfectly flowy, blonde hair and a gentle smile. Sometimes, we think she's a bit too good to be with Ron and Harry considering she's got both the charm and the wits.
Hermione In The Books: Large Front Teeth, Bushy Hair
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressHermione in the books has "lots of bushy brown hair and rather large front teeth." Her eyes are a bright, piercing brown. A different look, but still a bit too good for Ron and Harry.
Rowling at one point even said she's fully behind a Black Hermione.
Neville In The Movies: Nerdy Boy Turned Spicy
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressEveryone - including Rowling - loves Matthew Lewis' interpretation of Neville. He's got a round face, brunette hair, and long figure. But somehow in the last movie, Neville abadons the nerdy persona and becomes the handsome, charming hero we always knew he was.
Neville In The Books: Nerdy Blonde Boy With Buck Teeth
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressNeville is described in the books as being blonde, round-faced, and slightly buck-toothed. So definitely no dramatic change in the seventh year, but still one of our favorites.
Snape In The Movies: Pale
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressAlan Rickman portrays Snape perfectly. Greasy hair, hooked nose, and penetrating eyes. And at this point, we can't really picture anyone else in this role. His black flowing robes drape longer than the list of sins he's committed against his students.
Snape In The Book: Horribly Disgusting Teeth
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressBut Snape in the books also had yellow, uneven teeth, which would have been quite off-putting in the movies.
Ginny Weasley In The Movies: Blue-Eyed Brunette With Fair Skin
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the movies, Ginny seems to switch hair colors often between red and brunette. She's got bright blue eyes and fair skin.
Ginny Weasley In The Books: Fire Hair With Freckles And Bright Brown Eyes
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the books, Ginny has bright red hair and tons of freckles, a signature of the Weasley family. She also has bright brown eyes rather than Bonnie Wright's blue.
Dementors In The Movies: Skeletons In Cloaks
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the movies, the mystery of the demontor's physical appearance adds to their suspense. We only catch glimpses of their skeletal figures beneath the robes, and our imaginations do the rest.
Dementors In The Books: Zombies In Cloaks
Photo: Warner Bros. / AMC / Scholastic PressIn the books, the dementors are humanoid with lots of horrifying flesh. Basically a Walking Dead x Harry Potter crossover.
Adult Draco In The Movies: Balding
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressDraco is also quite well portrayed by Tom Felton. Adult Draco is where they differ. When he's dropping off his child, he's sporting a strangely circular hairdo.
Adult Draco: Balding But With A Ponytail
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressIn the books, adult Draco still has that receding hairline, but also puts his hair in a ponytail. That platinum blonde is a shining halo.
Tonks In The Movies: Muted And Classy
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the movies, Tonks changes her hair and nose once in a while, but normally stays pretty muted. As if she was once goth but now someone with less anger.
Tonks In The Books: Short Haired, Very Vibrant And Edgy
Photo: Warner Bros / Scholastic PressIn the books, Tonks is unapologetically edgy and wild. Her hair is normally short and spikey with vibrant colors.
Professor Slughorn In The Movies: Classy Hair
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressSlughorn in the movies has a 75% head of hair.
Professor Slughorn In The Books: A Walrus Mustache
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIf we just throw that hair onto his mustache, we'll have a perfect book representation.
Mad Eye Moody: "Countouring" The Eye
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressIn the movies, Madeye Moody has this unwieldly contraption that holds his eye in place.
Mad Eye Moody In The Books: Got Half A Nose
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressMoody's bright blue eye in the books is more seamless. His half-gone nose and multiple scars are the more distinguishing features of his face.
Fenrir Greyback In The Movies: Creepy Man
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressGreyback is the one set fire to the Weasley's homes. And though he's a werewolf, he just seems like an abnormally hairy man in the films. And somehow has bright surfer eyes.
Fenrir Greyback In The Books: Pennywise Werewolf
Photo: Warner Bros. / Scholastic PressGreyback in the books is terrifying with bright yellow eyes.
