This DIY Ron Weasley costume is sure to be a hit with your friends. My son Draco opted to be Ronald Weasley for our Family Theme this year for Halloween. I tried and tried to get him to be Draco (he has a wicked scowl) but my funny kid just had to be Ron Weasley. And I do think he makes an adorable Ron. Plus Draco reminded me that he is also terrified of spiders.
His costume was pretty easy to put together. You can click over to my DIY Harry Potter post to get the instructions on how to make the Hogwarts robe and tie. Our wand was leftover from his brother’s Harry Potter party.
The only other essential is to color your hair red. I tried a red shampoo but it didn’t take since his hair is dark blonde. So I decided to use some copper semi permanent hair color. I’m a hair dresser and our family is really into Halloween costumes. I even bleached his brothers hair 8 years ago when Gandalf was Draco. But you might want to pick up some of this color spray. Unless you have really light blonde hair as it might not wash out for a long time. I learned this the hard way. You can click over and check out my daughter’s mermaid pictures here. Her hair was pink for almost a year.
Some of the things our family loves about Ron is that he’s hilarious. And sticks up for his friends, even if his life is on the line. One of my favorite things Ron does is when he tries to curse Draco and shouts “Eat slugs!” Unfortunately the spell backfires and he ends up puking up slugs for awhile. But I love that he stuck up for Hermonie when she was called a mudblood. With his pure blood status he could have stayed quiet. But he stood up for what was right.
And if you are like Molly, taking care of a bunch of kids, and just don’t have the time to make a Ron Weasley costume it’s totally okay to order one on Amazon. Just don’t forget the color spray for your hair. This costume makes a great costume year round. My kids love being wizards. And I love that they play fight with wands. It’s much safer than lightsabers.

And tomorrow I will be sharing my youngest son’s costume. Any guesses what he is going to be?
