The WWF has successfully utilized Twitter's latest revamp to underscore the critical need for wildlife protection.
WWF Germany worked with McCann Germany, an advertising agency, to create a graphical portrayal of Twitter logo's evolution, stressing the terrible reality that a million animal species are today on the verge of extinction.

The simple but powerful picture illustrates how the Twitter emblem changed from blue bird in 2006 to a black 'X' logo in 2023. Each iteration of the blue bird represents different bird species, while the 'X' logo symbolizes the imminent extinction of these species if immediate actions to safeguard biodiversity aren't taken.

The agency shared the graphic on LinkedIn with a moving message, "The whole world mourns the loss of the Twitter bird. Around 1 million real animal species are threatened with extinction. Today we are in the midst of the greatest extinction of species since the end of the dinosaur era. A quarter of mammal species, one in eight bird species, more than 30 percent of sharks and rays, and 40 percent of amphibian species are threatened. Help us save the animals. An initiative of WWF Germany & us!"

The text on the graphic reads, “Protect our wildlife before it is too late”.
The ad campaign has gone viral and sparked talks about behavioral change, with people applauding WWF Germany's initiative and McCann Germany's marketing genius for supporting such an important subject.

This intriguing graphic piqued the interest of British scholar Julia Hobsbawm, who shared it on X, applauding the efforts of a German advertising agency. Her tweet has received over 44,000 likes and 12,000 retweets.

The campaign also triggered meaningful conversations, raising awareness about the critical need to protect endangered animal species.

“Pretty sure they nailed where the "x" goes for the point of no return of a loss of biodiversity so vast that it's gonna give us whiplash. There is nothing in the actions of world leadership that would suggest they're attempting to do anything but the "have a big ol' war" tactic,” commented a user.
